A new idea on the horizon, is Pell grant money being awarded to high school students dual enrolling in college classes. The idea behind this, is that if high school students are given access to money for college classes sooner, they will accrue less debt and opportunities will be opened to low income students. Initially, grants will go to 10,000 students enrolled at 44 colleges.
Some concerns about this experimental program is that Pell grant funds are already limited and younger children will be accessing this money earlier. Also, some officials worry that some of this money will be wasted on students who do not have a clearly defined idea on what their career goals are. Whatever is decided, this will be a new opportunity for many high school students across the U.S.
