The Charlottesville Reopening Fund raised $165,000 from 201 donors this school year to help families, and the organizers said this effort demonstrates the community's support for public schools and the potential for parent-teacher organizers to collaborate.

The organizers wrote in their recently released annual report that our public schools have largely failed to use the opportunity to raise funds from private, local businesses and other entities in this affluent community, detailing how the funds are used and lessons learned. The fund is a joint effort by the division’s parent-teacher organizations to start collecting donations in August to support schools and students through virtual learning and resuming face-to-face courses.

In general, everyone is very encouraged and pleased with the response. The fund has also provided opportunities for cooperation and conversation with PTO's from different schools. Read the Entire Article
