Dick and Candy Behrends were this year's Citizens of the Year in Juneau, Alaska, for their contributions to the community, including funding projects like a new Glory Hall and a new shack at a Boy Scout camp in honor of their late son, KTOO reports.
"They're two of the nicest and friendliest people you will ever meet, and they demonstrate every day, their commitment to ensure that Juneau continues to be the special place that it is for all of us," says Past Chamber President Eric Forst, who shared the couple's contributions to the Juneau Community Foundation, Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, scholarships, and Rotary International.
The Lifetime Achievement award went to Jerry Harmon, a founding member of the Juneau Gold Rush days Commission, as well as a member of the Treadwell historic preservation and restoration society board.
The late Rosemary Hagevig was the chamber's Citizen of the Year in 1995.
