Arizona State University's School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment is getting a hefty boost from a major donor: the employee-owned engineering consulting firm Terracon.
The Terracon Foundation, the community investment branch of Terracon, is giving away $50,000 in scholarships to three engineering students, all of whom are pursuing graduate or undergraduate degrees in civil, environmental, and sustainable engineering, reports the Arizona Republic.
"We are very grateful for the support and look forward to working together to grow an outstanding pipeline of talent that will serve the industry for years to come," says Ram Pendyala, professor of civil engineering and director of the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment.
Terracon is one of the largest engineering consulting firms in the US, with more than 6,000 employees in 175 locations.
It's also one of the top 25 design firms in geotechnical engineering in the US, per Engineering News-Record.
Terracon Executive Vice President Tim Anderson, a 1987 ASU grad, says the company wants to help boost the number of engineers in the field.
