Foundation: Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley

There's a new CEO at the helm of the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp., and she's made a splash in her first month on the job.

Laura Washington has brought with her a "vision and extensive experience in strategic planning, partnership building and communications," according to a press release from the nonprofit, which aims to boost economic growth in the three counties that comprise the Poughkeepsie-based area.

Washington, a native New Yorker, has worked in communications at the New York Historical Society and established the Andrew W.Mellon Foundation's first communications function, the release notes.

She's also been on the board of Historic Huguenot Street, where she's served as chair of its Education and Programming Committee, and on the New York Re-gional Selection Committee for the Marshall Scholarship.

Washington, who has a master's degree in strategic communications from Columbia University, is "dedicated to driving economic growth and prosperity across the region through impactful initiatives," the press release notes.

She's also a member of the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley's Board of Directors, which distributes millions of dollars in grants to support a wide range of initiatives, including education, arts and culture, health, the environment, and food security.
