Gray'S School of Art Secures Funding to Support North East Creative Sector

If you're a freelancer in Aberdeen, Scotland, there's a new group you can call your own: Aberdeen Independents.

The brainchild ofSally Reaper, director of Look Again at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen, the group will be led by free-lancers, and it's being funded with a $66,000 grant from the UK's Shared Government Prosperity Fund, reports the Aberdeen Press and Journal.

Reaper says the idea was born out of a desire "to create a network of like-minded people who share a common interest in, and passion for, the creative industry" in the North East of Scotland, per the Guardian.

The group plans to hold a series of events over the next year to support the region's freelancers.

"This project will amplify their voices, bolster the retention of talent, and allow communities to access the high-quality work that is created in Aberdeen," says Reaper, per the Press and Journal.

The group hopes to "enhance the region's cultural economy and actively engage audiences, whilst also uplifting the entire community," she adds.
