Music Education Took Center Stage at Scottsdale Festival

It's not every day that a group of high school musicians plays at a public park, but that's exactly what happened last week at the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy's annual Music in the Park event in Cave Creek, Ariz., the Arizona Republic reports.

The students from Cave Creek Union High School District taught kids how to play different instruments, from violins to violas to cellos, as part of the district's Music in the Schools program.

"It's really cool to see the kids' faces when they see the music they're playing," says the group's executive director.

"It's really cool to see their eyes light up."

The event was organized by the district's music department in response to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which gives money to districts to teach kids about music.

"It's really cool to see the kids' faces when they see the music they're playing," says Audrey Hofelich, aChaparral High School junior who played a viola.

"It's really fun."
