Texas A&M has recently received two multi-million dollar grants, one supporting its music program and another supporting a joint venture between the petroleum engineering department and the business school.
The $10-million-dollar music grant, received from the Ed Rachal Foundation, will go to support the construction of a new music center. Texas A&M has had a long, varying relationship with the foundation, one that has also funded over 30 scholarships. The president of the school, Tyson Voelkel points out that music gifts provide multiple benefits including the ability to recruit top level faculty and researchers.
The $12-million-dollar engineering grant will be used to create a new program called the Petroleum Ventures Program or PVP, a program designed to train undergraduate and graduate students interested in the oil and gas industry.
Voelkel says to attract donors, be purposeful, patient, passionate and authentic.
