The Indian River Lakes Conservancy is asking residents and visitors of Theresa, New York, to get outdoors and see what they can do in a year's time.

That's thanks to two grants from the Community Fund for Theresa, a fund set up by longtime Theresa residents Russell and Mary Wilcox in 2020 to "advance the general welfare of the Theresa community," according to the foundation's website.

The Beast Challenge, as it's being called, is a year-long series of outdoor activities that includes kayaking, hiking, biking, camping, and "four-wheeling," WWTI reports.

It will take a few weekends to complete, but visitors will be encouraged to come back to the area, which includes eight local lakes, several trails, and bridges, several times a year.

A $3,465 grant will help create a Theresa-area map and brochures to promote local businesses.

A $1,925 grant to the Cornell Cooperative Extension will support full scholarships for up to five youths to attend 4-H Camp Wabasso in Theresa this summer.

The camp is the only one of its kind in the area, and its mission is to provide educational opportunities and hands-on activities using 4-H research-based curricula in a safe and fun camp setting in the natural environment
