Www 2023 Georgia High School Level Science and Engineering Fair Awards Announced

The Air Force Research Laboratory is known for producing some of the best scientists in the world, but a group of high school students in Savannah, Ga., is being called the best of the bunch.

The Savannah Morning News reports that nine students from Jenkins High School and Tybee Island Maritime Academy took home top honors at the Georgia Regional Science and Engineering Fair earlier this month.

Among the winning projects: a Spoonful of Sugar, which took first place in the Biochemistry category.

The project looked at how a Spoonful of Sugar can be used to make medicine go down.

First place in the Microbiology category went to Kamden Louis for his study on the effects of soil bacteria on periwinkles.

Second place in the Chemistry category went to Miley Doan for her study on how a Spoonful of Sugar can be used to make sunscreen.

And third place in the Engineering Mechanics category went to Emily Yeo for her study on how trusses in a bridge affect its weight capacity.
