Harrisburg University, Upmc Partner for New Health Sciences Building

"It symbolizes a beacon of hope for our community, signifying our commitment to innovation and excellence in health care and advanced manufacturing."

That's what Eric Darr, president of Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, had to say about the new UPMC Health Sciences Tower in Harrisburg, Pa., a joint initiative between the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, the Patriot-News reports.

The 11-story building, which opened in September, is designed to support advanced manufacturing, pharmacology, exercise science, physical therapy, and the UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing, among other programs.

It also houses the nursing partnership between UPMC Harrisburg and UPMC in Central Pennsylvania, which will offer a 16-month accelerated diploma program for RNs.

The UPMC Health Sciences Tower features two floors dedicated to high-tech classrooms, simulation spaces, state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment, classrooms, and auditoriums for education and research in advanced manufacturing, pharmacology, exercise science, physical therapy, and the UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing.

The academic spaces are outfitted with technology that will enable researchers, educators, and trainers to broadcast medical training across the country and internationally.
