Kate Harris is a senior at Northgate High School in Coweta County, Ga., and she's also the president of her high school's community service team.
So when the Coweta Community Foundation reached out to the 17-year-old to see if she'd be a good candidate for its 2024 Community Service Team scholarship, she jumped at the chance.
"I knew I wanted to be on the team," she tells the Newnan Times-Herald.
"I knew I wanted to give back to the community."
The foundation's scholarship fund is open to high school seniors in Coweta and Coweta County who plan to attend college in the fall of 2024 and have a 3.2 GPA or higher.
"The overarching goal was clear: to cultivate a generation of compassionate leaders equipped with the skills and knowledge to effect positive change," the foundation states on its website.
Harris has spent much of her time on the CST since her freshman year, serving as the team's vice president and secretary.
She's also volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club of Newnan, the American Red Cross, and more.
