Pcfi Board in Place for 10Th Year of Tryon International Film Festival

The Tryon International Film Festival is in its 10th year, and this year's event will be its last.

co-founder Kirk Gollwitzer tells the Asheville Citizen-Times that he and his wife, Ashley, came up with the idea for the film festival a decade ago when they were trying to figure out how to boost independent film production in their home state of North Carolina.

"We thought, 'Wouldn't it be great if there was a film festival in Tryon?'" Gollwitzer says.

"It's a small town, it's small enough that you don't have to go to New York or LA to find a film festival, but there is one in Tryon."

The festival runs from Oct.

12 to Oct.

13, with more than 500 people expected to attend this year, according to the festival's website.

"The signature film festival and media arts education offerings fill a gap in continuing and skill-based education in the industry in the region and provide a catalyst for creative and economic development," the website states.

"As I prepare for a new adventure, I will always be grateful for my time at TRIFF," Gollwitzer says.
