Exploring Other Research Fields at Xjtlu: My Summer Well Spent

"I've always been fascinated by the intersection of business and science, which led me to an exciting opportunity at [Xi'an Jiaotong- Liverpool University]."

That's whathea Chen, a student at the UK's University of Liverpool Management School, wrote in a blog post about her summer exchange to China's Xi'an Jiaotong- Liverpool University, where she worked in a lab under the direction of Justin Fendos, a doctor at the university's School of Science.

The 18-year-old, who is studying for her BA in Business Management, wrote that she "felt honored to receive a recommendation from Professor John Moraros, Dean of the School of Science, to join a lab SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship) project led by Dr Justin Fendos."

The SURF program allows undergraduates to spend a year working in a research lab under the direction of a professor at a British university, the Telegraph reports.

In this case, Fendos worked with Chen on a project focusing on the use of facial recognition technology in health care.

The project involved using facial recognition software to identify patients in MRI scans, and the photos they took helped Fendos create a computer-generated image of the patients.

The project is expected to wrap up
