A Washington state high school senior has been named the state's top high school student for the second year in a row, the Spokesman-Review reports.
Nathan Holterhoff, a senior at North Central High School in Wenatchee, was named the top student in the math, science, and English categories of the North Central Tech Alliance's 23rd annual Innovator Awards.
He also took home the top honor last year.
"This year's represent diverse and dynamic spirit of innovation, education, diverse and dynamic spirit of entrepreneurship that defines North Central Washington," David Mabee, the alliance's executive director, says in a press release.
Holterhoff, who started the school's after-school robotics program, says he was inspired to start the school after seeing other high school students start their own after-school robotics programs.
He says he decided to start his own after-school program because he was frustrated with the lack of after-school programs in his area.
"I wanted to do something that would give back to the community," he tells the Spokesman-Review.
"I wanted to do something that would inspire other kids to do the same thing."
Holterhoff is one of 15 finalists in five categories.
