The chief executive of a Canadian oil and gas company has died in a plane crash in Siberia, the CBC reports.
A private jet carrying Arif Patel, 52, and his wife and two children was on its way to the People's Choice Awards when it crashed near the town of Nyagan.
According to the Hindustan Times, the plane was on its way to the awards ceremony in Los Angeles when it went down.
Patel was pronounced dead at the scene, and his wife and two children were taken to a nearby hospital.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Arif and his family to this tragic accident," says a statement from the family.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time."
The crash is believed to have been caused by a mechanical failure.
Patel was CEO of Calgary-based oil and gas company Ensco until he moved to the UK in 2010.
He founded Preston Trading, a company that specializes in mining, oilfield services, and oil and gas research and production, according to a bio on his company's website.
