Pennsylvania'S Creative Sector Booms, Contributing Over $30 Billion to State Economy

"These figures underscore the vital role that creativity and culture play not only in enriching community life but also in driving economic development."

So says the chair of Pennsylvania's Council on the Arts in a statement on new data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the National Endowment for the Arts that shows the state's creative sector added more than $30.1 billion to its GDP between 2017 and 2022a 6.8% increase from the previous year.

The creative sector, which includes everything from arts and cultural production to commercial enterprises and nonprofit organizations, employed more than 175,000 full-time equivalent workers and provided $15 billion in compensation, putting Pennsylvania seventh in the nation for creative sector employment and eighth for its contribution to the state's GDP.

"These figures underscore the vital role that creativity and culture play not only in enriching community life but also in driving economic development," says Susan S.

Cohen, chair of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
