When Della Flora became superintendent of Marion City Schools in Ohio last year, she had no idea she'd be named one of Time's "Most Intriguing People" for a second year in a row. But that's just the beginning for the 48-year-old, who tells the magazine she's learned a lot about herself over the years in her role as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. "I think it's sometimes difficult for teachers because they have their schedules, and, you know, they need to get through their lessons, they have their curriculum, that they need to hit certain benchmarks," she says. "Sometimes we get caught up in that, and we forget that we have little people that are sitting in our classrooms every single day." That's why, in her words, "the more you know about a student, the better you will know how to address them in the classroom."
