Local Artist, Teacher Enlivens Owasso'S Redbud District with Colorful Mural

"I want viewers to feel joy and be excited when they see it while stirring a sense of pride in their city," says the artist behind a new mural in downtown Owasso, Okla.

"I hope the mural gives our community a deeper sense of place and gives the message that Owasso is a great place to live, work, and play."

Local artist Shelly Collins and building owner Anita Saiymeh are painting a mural on the south wall of Medicap Pharmacy that will depict a scissortail, Oklahoma's state bird, flying over a historically styled Main Street sign, along with a flower-framed Redbud District logo, the Owasso Reporter reports.

Collins, who has painted murals in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Shawnee, Sand Springs, and Bartlesville, says she "really wanted to paint a local mural" in Owasso.

Saiymeh, who owns the building where the mural is being painted, says she "just wanted to bring attention to that area."

"Everybody that's coming down there is trying to bring that area back to life," she says.

"There's a lot of really cool things that are happening."

The mural is expected to be completed before Owasso's Redbud Days in May Read the Entire Article
