Carl Sandburg College in Monmouth, Ill., has been named one of 12 schools in the state to receive a $1.4 million grant from the Illinois Board of Higher Education to help increase the number of registered professional nurses in the state, the Southern reports.

The $96,401 grant will go toward purchasing audio and simulation equipment, helping students with end-of- program expenses such as fingerprinting, and more.

"Our simulation lab gives Sandburg the opportunity to experience situations they'll encounter in health care environments," the dean of health professions says.

"Also, helping cover the cost of enrollment fees that must pay to obtain their state licensure will lessen the financial and mental stress our graduates carry as prepare to enter the workforce."

The grants are designed to increase the number of registered professional nurses with high-quality credentials to meet the demands of the workforce. Read the Entire Article
