Joon Park, an associate professor of information studies at Syracuse University, has been named the university's new Meredith Professor.
The honor is given to professors who have "demonstrated exceptional proficiency in research, teaching, and service," according to a university press release.
Park, who specializes in information security and higher education, was chosen for the position based on his overall excellence as a teacher and on his potential to contribute to the improvement of the teaching and learning environment at the university, Syracuse.com reports.
"I believe the journey to this Meredith Professorship has been a collaborative achievement, one I could not have embarked on without the support of my colleagues and students," Park says.
