When Dylan Barker's family moved to Oxford, Miss., from North Carolina a few years ago, they decided it was time for him to go to college.

But the University of Mississippi student didn't just want to go to school, he wanted to make a difference.

That's why, as part of an after-school program at the Boys and Girls Club, Barker and his team developed an air filter called the Corsi-Rosenthal box, which they plan to install in 30 classrooms at Central Elementary School, the Clarion-Ledger reports.

"The Corsi-Rosenthal box is a testament to the power of innovation and collaboration," Barker says in a press release.

"It's affordable, accessible, and has the potential to significantly improve air quality in classrooms, ultimately enhancing the learning environment for students."

Barker's project was developed in collaboration with the Pharmacy Administration Department and was funded by the Strive Foundation, which backs undergraduate-initiated research projects, creative achievements, and community service endeavors.

Barker's team worked with the Boys and Girls Club to teach students about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) projects.

They also introduced students to STEM projects and taught them research methods, the press release notes.
