Denver Public Schools' Citywide High School Art Show on view at BRDG Project

"I would not be the person I am today without an art teacher who believed in me, gave me confidence when I wasn't good at other academics, and made me feel valued," says Lily Overby.

Overby is a senior at Denver's East High School, where she's in the top 10% of her class in the city's annual high school art show.

Her piece "Womanly by Abriana Acuna" is among more than 350 pieces on display at the Denver Public Schools' Citywide High School Art Show through April 29, the Denver Post reports.

The show is put on by the nonprofit BRDG Project, which says it's "supporting the future leaders of the Denver art community by hosting the Denver Public Schools' Citywide High School Art Show."

Students were eligible to participate if they've taken at least one high school visual arts course and are currently enrolled in high school.

According to a press release, the show is "celebrated each student's individual, innovative, and expressive artistry."

Overby's work was chosen for the show based on three factors: creativity, technique, and artistic intent.
